Honk, Jr. Audition Notice:

Auditions are December 2nd – 4th 2007 from 5:30 pm to 9:00. Callbacks will be December 5th, 2007.

Please bring a resume.  If you don’t have one, you may list your experience on the back of our audition forms.  Please bring a list of ALL CONFLICTS with rehearsal schedule.  Conflicts are not allowed for performances or Tech week.

Rehearsals are Monday, Tuesday Wednesday 5:00pm-7:00pm beginning December 10. Saturday rehearsals are possible but not yet determined. Tech Rehearsal will run for two weeks Monday through Friday and will start on February 18, 2008.

Performance Schedule:

Saturdays March 1 & 8 2008                 1:00pm and 4:00pm

Sundays   March 2 & 9 2008                 1:00pm and 4:00pm

Wednesday March 5                               2 daytime “school shows”

Friday        March 7, 2008                        8:00 pm

Vocals

Please prepare 16 bars of a standard musical theatre song -- no pop songs.  Bring sheet music in your key or a CD with music (no words).

A pianist will be provided.

Dance

Please bring comfortable clothes you can move in and appropriate shoes.  You will be taught a dance combination and perform it at the audition.

Reading

We will do semi-cold readings from the script.

HONK, JR. is the musical adventure of the Ugly Duckling. A colorful cast of ducks, cats and various water fowl come together to tell this tale of self discovery, family, and acceptance.

Character Breakdown

*unless otherwise stated all parts are open

to anyone age 7 and older.*

Ugly (age 15 and up) – A gosling (baby swan), Tall, gangly and gray, Ugly stands out from the rest of his duckling brothers and sisters. He is sweet, a great swimmer, and is to fit in.

Ida (age 15 and up) - A mother duck and housewife, Ida does her best to love each of her children. She is especially protective of Ugly and sees the best in him. A strong, loving woman and mother.

Drake (age 15 and up) – A father duck and Ida’s husband, Drake is a down homeboy on the farm. He enjoys the social life of the pond and is afraid of how the other birds on the pound will judge his family.

Beaky, Fluff, Billy and Downy  – The first four ducklings to hatch, they are Ugly’s older siblings. They openly mock Ugly and do their best to push him out of the nest.

Maureen– Ida’s neighbor - a Moorhen, is a busybody gossiper.

The Cat– A classic villain who wants to eat Ugly.

The Turkey – Very aristocratic, proud and happy to make it through the holidays.

Henrietta – A hen that lives on the farm.

Greylag – A grey goose, Greylag is an Air Force Commander, leading his troops through the hunting season.

Dot  - A grey goose, Dot is Greylag’s wife and co–pilot/flight attendant.

Barnacles, Snowy, Pinkfoot – Greylag’s not-so-shining troops. These geese are eager to follow orders, but can be clumsy.

Grace– An older duck on the pond, Grace was once married to a mandarin duck. She is respected by everyone on the pond.

Bullfrog – funny, enjoys life a very positive view of the world. Larger than life.

Father Swan – Regal, beautiful, elegant.

Mother Swan – Regal, kind and understanding

Penny (age 15 and up) – a young beautiful swan that Ugly meets and falls in love with.

Bewick – a young swan, calming and assuring.

Jay Bird – The reporter covering the story of Ugly for the other fowl on the farm.

The Farmer – a voice off stage.
