January 18 – February 16, 2008
Auditions are November 25, 26, 27, 2007 at 7:00 pm. Children should arrive by 6:45 to complete paperwork and will be auditioned first whenever possible. Callbacks will be November 28, 2007.
Please bring a resume. If you don’t have one, you may list your experience on the back of our audition forms. Please bring a list of ALL CONFLICTS with rehearsal schedule. Conflicts are not allowed for performances or Tech week.
Rehearsals - for purposes of conflicts, assume rehearsals are from 7-10 M-F starting Dec 3.
Performances are Jan 18 – Feb 16, 2008; Thu, Fri, and Sat nights at 8 and Sundays at 2
Tech week is Jan 12-17, 2008
Vocals
Please prepare 16 bars of a standard musical theatre song -- no pop songs. Bring sheet music in your key or a CD with music (no words).
A pianist will be provided
Small children may sing any song they know
Not all roles must sing.
Dance
Please bring comfortable clothes you can move in and appropriate shoes. You will be taught a combination and perform it at the audition.

Character Descriptions
The King – 30-40 – strong ruler set in his own ways. Struggles with choosing new ways for his country. Shows strength and vulnerablilty. Must sing and move well. Baritone.
Anna Leonowens – in her 30’s, Anna, the school teacher is a strong woman who knows her own mind, loves her students and comes to understand the Siamese way. Must sing and move well. Lyric soprano (think Julie Andrews).
The Kralahome – age range open, but over 30. The King’s right hand man. Loyal to Siamese traditions. Does not sing or dance.
Lun Tha – 18-25. In love with Tuptim. Must sing. High baritone or tenor to G.
Tuptim – 18-25 The King’s slave brought from Burma. She belongs to the King, but loves Lun Tha. Must sing well. Soprano.
Lady Thiang – 30-40. The King’s head wife. Loyal to the King. Loves him in her own way. Must sing well. Soprano or mezzo with a strong top range.
Prince Chululongkorn – 10-14. The Kings oldest son, heir to the throne. Struggles to understand and accept changes. Must sing well. Music is best for unchanged voices.
Louis Leonowens – 10 -14 The schoolteachers only son. Bright and kind, competitive with the prince. Must sing well. Music is best for unchanged voices.
Captain Orton/may double as priest/Simon Legree – English ship captain. Does not sing.
The Interpreter – Interprets for the King/May double as priest/dragon. Does not sing or dance. A physical role (crawling on ground, etc)
Phra Alack – The King’s secretary (male). Does not sing or dance.
Sir Edward Ramsey – Englishman. Old flame of Anna. Does not sing. May waltz.
The King’s wives 18-25. Sing and move well
The King’s children (11 total from 7-10ish), Must sing well.
Royal dancers (don’t necessarily sing)
Amazons, Slaves, Attendants. Sing and move well.
Deck Hands/Guards/Priests. Do not sing or dance
