PLOT SUMMARY (back)

Join Alice's madcap adventures in Wonderland as she chases the White Rabbit, races the Dodo Bird, gets tied up with the Tweedles, raps with a bubble-blowing Caterpillar, and beats the Queen of Hearts at her own game! This fast-paced stage adaptation of Alice in Wonderland features updated dialogue and new arrangements of such classic Disney songs as "I'm Late," "The Un-birthday Song," and an all-new version of "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah."

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS (back)

Cheshire Cat - The Cheshire Cat serves as the Narrator for the story. Actor should have a strong sense of comic timing. MAY BE PLAYED BY A BOY(S) OR A GIRL(S).

Mathilda - Alice's older sister and a non-singing role. She should be a strong actor who can speak loudly and clearly.

Alice - A spunky girl who enjoys adventures and is on a journey of self-discovery. Played by 3 girls (Alice, Large Alice, Small Alice).

White Rabbit - An energetic, worrisome character that hardly ever stops moving. Actor must continuously exude a lot of energy and rapid-fire change of focus. MAY BE PLAYED BY A BOY OR A GIRL.

Doorknob - A funny character role based somewhat on Jimmy Durante. MAY BE PLAYED BY A BOY OR A GIRL.

Dodo Bird - Captain of the Queen's Navy; good actor and singer. He is in command of the lobsters and other animals and is another of Wonderland's vibrant characters. MAY BE PLAYED BY A BOY OR A GIRL.

Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee - A pair of goofballs similar to old comedy teams like Abbott & Costello or Laurel & Hardy. They should be good singers and actors who work well as a team. MAY BE PLAYED BY BOYS OR GIRLS.

The FLOWERS (Rose, Petunia, Lily, Violet, & Daisy) - The snooty, mean girls who think they are the most important people in the whole world. Good dancers and singers who can handle harmonies.

Caterpillar - Part sensei and part diva, the Caterpillar is one cool character who needs to be able to sing, dance, and act well. Provides the heart for the story and really convinces Alice to be herself. MAY BE PLAYED BY A BOY(S) OR A GIRL(S).

Mad Hatter - The life of the tea party, and very much "larger than life." The actor needs to be comfortable being silly and has to sing one song. MAY BE PLAYED BY A BOY OR A GIRL.

March Hare - The counterpart to the Mad Hatter and also enjoys a good party. A little less crazy than the Mad Hatter, the March Hare is a happy fun character who enjoys playing. The actor needs to be comfortable being silly and has to sing one song. MAY BE PLAYED BY A BOY OR A GIRL.

Queen of Hearts - The big mean bully of the story. Actor must have a full resonant voice and be able to follow music well. The Queen of Hearts must have a commanding presence and should be a little scary, but funny at the same time. MAY BE PLAYED BY A BOY OR A GIRL.

King of Hearts - The often forgotten ruler of Wonderland. You need to have a good actor for this role who can handle some very high-level vocabulary. Casting a small boy in this role will highlight the fact that he is in the shadow of the Queen. MAY BE PLAYED BY A BOY OR A GIRL.

Ensemble to portray Rock Lobsters, Royal Cardsmen, and a variety of other Wonderland creatures!
