The Beard of Avon
A farce by AMY FREED

"Delicious; witty -- Highbrow art as low grade fun!" -- Variety

Could William Shakespeare, an illiterate country bumpkin from the backwater town of Stratford-upon-Avon, really have written the greatest body of dramatic art ever created in the English language? That is the question at the heart of THE BEARD OF AVON, a delightful   fast paced, and fun Elizabethan who-done it!

At the story's center is a young Will "Shakspere" longing to experience life away from his dismal Stratford Farm and his unhappy marriage to the much older Anne Hathaway. After witnessing a "low comedy" performed by a troupe of players, Will decides to give up his entire life and run away to London to pursue his theatrical dreams.

Along the way, he is befriended by the existing company of real London players and a darkly mysterious, lord, the Earl of Oxford. Mystery turns to farce as Anne Hathaway disguised as a tart, follows him to London in order to woo him back to her side. Further hilarity ensues when even  the great Queen, Elizabeth I, and her entire court get in on the literary shenanigans. A lively romp from start to finish!
